Transforming Urban Schools: A Systems Approach

In this presentation Dr. George White the Director of Lehigh University's Center for Developing Urban Educational Leaders offers an adaptive approach to "fixing" urban schools that center on building leadership capacity within a community. He suggests that to transform urban schools we need to develop community based partnership that center on improving health and wellness, quality housing and employability skills while focusing on school readiness and a curriculum based on the principles of rigor, relevance and relationships. He offers positive examples from Community Schools in the Lehigh Valley of PA and from the Harlem Children zone to make this point.
